El Tino: Han - Natty Blue
French music blog, El Tino, gives Radio Flyers raved reviews!
Translation:
If you like folk-pop music, read and above all, listen. For behold, an exception. A real one. A rare one. Name: Han.
In 2009, Brother Han left his job on the West Coast to pursue his dream in New York. A troubadour with only his guitar, harmonica, and his passion for music.
Traveing by car on the way to The Big Apple, he stops in every city, takes out his guitar and sings. One by one, he sells CD’s of his first six-song EP, produced in Los Angeles before he left.
The artist’s life is not always easy. In New York, he played on the sidewalks, subways, cafes, bars, campuses, parks. Anywhere he could sing (see Natty Blue clip below) to raise enough money to pay for a full-length album of professional caliber. Han survived two winters this way, writing and singing. Finally, in late 2011, he appealed to his fans via the crowd funding site, KickStarter. The goal he reached: $8,000. Han can finally realize his dream.
The results: Radio Flyers; an album of 13 songs.
Here is the work of a lifetime, with lyrics and music by an independent, brilliant, and talented artist. The result is just as bright. Han is often compared to Jack Johnson and Jason Mraz, and for good reason; just listen to The Last Steed Gold and Bright Green Fields. But Han also shows a touch of Billy Joel and Al Kooper, with songs like Wasting Time and Lullaby Of A Wave.
Han is a wonderful storyteller, poet and rapper, who has honed in on a style of his own. Folk, pop, country (Natty Blue, Radio Flyers and San Diego, for example) account for the first part of the album, while the orchestrations and complex arrangements come to supplement the album, leaving the listener stunned. It comes to a grand finale with the beautiful A Letter To Raina, Beautiful Hell and If All Else Fails.
Han: a huge talent. Radio Flyers: a stunning album. Certain to fill you with emotion.
